Kamil Chamoun
From Maronite History
The second Lebanese post independence president, a lawyer and a well known politician.
Life and Family
Born in Deir El Kamar in 1900 to a Maronite family. His father, Nemr Chamoun, was Director of the financial department during in Mount Lebanon before World War I. His uncle, Khaled August Pasha, was the first Lebanese prime minister in 1926.
His father was exiled between 1916 and 1918 for his opposition of the Ottoman authorities.
Kamil studies law at the Saint Joseph University, a Jesuit institute, in Beirut, and graduated in 1923.
He was elected as the delegate of the order of lawyers to the Palace of Justice in 1933.
